Mendongeng adalah menyampaikan peristiwa dalam kata-kata, suara dan / atau gambar, sering dengan improvisasi. Cerita atau narasi telah dibagikan di setiap kebudayaan sebagai sarana hiburan, pendidikan, pelestarian budaya dan menanamkan nilai-nilai moral. elemen penting dari cerita dan cerita termasuk plot, karakter dan sudut pandang narasi. Istilah 'cerita' digunakan dalam arti sempit untuk merujuk secara khusus untuk cerita lisan dan juga dalam arti longgar untuk merujuk pada teknik yang digunakan dalam media lain terungkap atau mengungkapkan narasi cerita.




Di bawah ini adalah contoh cerita terbaru dari kalimantan barat yang bisa menjadi andalan bagi story teller atau pendongeng untuk melakukan aksi sotry telling nya atau mendongeng nya.

The Legend of Landak River

(a folklore from West Kalimantan)

Long time ago, lived a farmer and his wife in a village by the side of a forest. They lived simply and they liked to help other people, especially one who got in trouble. One night, after the farmer and his wife had warked all day at rice field, they rested in their house. The farmer was sitting beside his sleeping wife. Suddenly, a firefly flew over the farmer’s head and made him amazed with the glow of the firefly. He then the firefly until they reach a small pond not far from their house. Then the firefly suddenly disappeared. The farmer went home and found his wife still soundly asleep.

In the morning, the farmer and his wife were working on their field. They were there for several hours. They were very tired and wanted to get some rest. Then the wife told his husband about the dream she had last night.“Dear, i dreamt something strange last night. In my dream I was walking through a vast field, and I came to a pond. I saw a giant hedgehog in the lake. It was glaring at me, so I ran away.” Told the wife.  “really? Let me check in the pond i visited last night when i followed the firefly!” answered the farmer.

After he heard his wife’s dream, the farmer went back to the small pond he had visited last night. Just before he found something very shiny. He came to the shiny object and took it. “oh my god! What’s that? It shines very beautiful” said him spontaneously. Then he found that  It was a hedgehog statue. It was very beautiful. Its eyes were made of diamond. The farmer then brought the statue home. He wanted to show it to his wife. After the farmer arrived, he made his wife see the statue. His wife was so happy and planned to sell it. “thank you god, you’ve given us your blessing through this statue, by this we will be rich.” Prayed his wife

At night, the farmer had a dream. A giant hedgehog came to him. He said, “Please let me stay in your home. As a return, I will give you everything you want. Just caress the statue’s head and say the prayer. There are two kinds of prayers, one is to start your wish and the second is to stop your wish. Now memorize the prayers.”

In the next day, the farmer told his wife about his dream. They really wanted to prove it. The farmer slowly caressed the statue's head. He said the prayer and asked for rice. Suddenly, a magical thing happened. Rice came out of the mouth of the statue. The rice kept on coming out from the statue's mouth.

The farmer immediately said the prayer to stop it. It worked! The rice then stopped coming out from the statue's mouth. Now the farmer mentioned other things, they were jewelry and other stuffs they needed. In just a moment, the farmer and his wife became very rich. But they still liked to help other people. A lot of poor came to them for help. They then shared their materials with the neighbors.

There was one neighbor who was very jealous. He was actually a thief! “What’s happened with the farmer? Why is he so rich now? It doesn’t make sense, i have to know why. I will look for the secret, yeah it’s a must.” The thief mumbled. He wanted to know how the farmers became rich.

Unfortunately, a thief found out about the secret of the hedgehog statue. “finally, i know the secret, i will steal it tomorrow, then i will be rich hahahhaha” laughed the thief. Pretending to be a poor asking for help, he suddenly stole the statue from the farmer’s house. He immediately took it and ran away. He was very tired from running and was very thirsty. He wanted to get some water from the statue. He said the prayer. His wish came true. Water came out of the statue’s mouth.

The thief was so happy. He drank and drank the water and said “hahahaha i know how to use it, after this i will ask for jewelry, then i will be rich for sudden.” He wanted to stop drinking to wish his next order but he did not know how to stop the water. He forgot how to stop the prayer request. Water kept on coming out. He did not know what to do. He was really panicking. “hey stop, i said stop. Don’t give me water anymore! Stop! I want gold!” shouted the thief. He asked for help. People who saw the incident were really scared. They ran away to avoid the water. More and more water surrounded him.

Slowly, it became a small pond. Water flowed on the ground. It became a river. People then named the river as Hedgehog River or Sungai Landak. ***
